10 Feb Fourteen Year Miracle
This is a true story about my stepfather, Terry, and his amazing journey conquering cancer, while living beyond physical well-being.
Terence Riley was a warrior.
He worked hard in his career, family and perhaps most notably, his own health and well-being.
His career led him from computer science to management and leadership-from England’s Oxford University as well as prestigious educational institutions to the world stage, where family, friends and colleagues benefitted from Terry’s insights and new-found wisdom.
Terry worked hard in his career, cherished his family and friends and, perhaps most notably, after his life-changing diagnosis in 2010, he took charge of his own health and well-being, learning all he could to heal himself.
Family, friends, colleagues and even doctors admired his insights and newfound wisdom on healing.
One of Terry’s greatest strengths was his compassionate desire to be of service to others in need, be it close connections or new acquaintances.
Terry found purpose in the simple joy of assisting others.

Angel, his beloved companion
He took time for life’s simple pleasures-be it motorcycling, auto mechanics, reading or studying books from his massive library, listening to an eclectic mix of music (see clip below), being immersed in nature by the ocean-especially with birds, bicycling, horseback riding, watching movies, downhill skiing and spending quality time with people or pets.
Terry especially loved camping and exploring Montana and Wyoming-a true cowboy at heart!
Later in life, deeper reflections and meditations also became part of his lifestyle.

BEING TOUGH IN TOUGH TIMES
Tragically, in early 2010, Terry was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s stage four lymphoma, a complex type of cancer.
From 2010-2024, some may say he fought for his survival.
Others, attest he miraculously extended his life for fourteen years; yet others say he brought more healing to the world than ever before in his life, through his compassionate generosity.
Either way, the journey he went through is truly inspiring.
Let’s explore the miracle in action.

TEACHER, LEADER AND MASTER OF CLASSIC SCIENCES
PART ONE: Physical Healing Process
In early 2010, Terry spent five weeks in a hospital due to kidney failure and was given only two more weeks to live.
As a result, he agreed to have a biopsy followed by extensive chemotherapy.
Despite the initial limited relevant medical information about his specific condition, Terry was determined to conduct a highly-detailed research process by himself.
Terry studied, researched, documented, applied business skills and drew diagrams-towards his own-later to be known: self-diagnosis and treatment.
His physicians were amazed he advanced so quickly in his process, sometimes leaving them speechless, due to his previous lack of medical experience.
With the power of a photographic memory and determined will, he began treating himself in ways that were, eventually, eye-opening discoveries to his physicians and many others.

PART TWO: Metaphysical Healing Process
Physical healing has its place in this story, however, the metaphysical process is what saved Terry’s life.
Terry reflected, meditated and discussed the healing possibilities in great detail, however, it was muscle testing that reigned supreme in the final bout of understanding and solving his riddle.
Muscle testing is used extensively in kinesiology and metaphysical healing, however, when done in the context of modern healing, it is more controversial from a scientific perspective.
Notably, the polygraph is used extensively in law enforcement for similar purposes; the FBI lie detector test (also a muscle test) has been used since WWII and is considered accurate up to 90% of the time.
Conclusively, Terry found many paths of healing, but it was Jimmy Scott’s teachings, the founder of Health Kinesiology, with proven scientific efficacy, that convinced him muscle testing was a viable diagnostic tool.
–
After his hospital release while recovering, with the support of his wife, Harmoney, they resumed his metaphysical corrections that aided with his healing process.
Her support, over the years, helped him heal physically and mentally by means of kinesiology (muscle-testing) as a diagnostic tool to access his subconscious mind, then applied modern healing techniques to resolve his symptoms.
Terry was able to diagnose his illness to a fairly detailed level, then perform psychotherapeutic healing for his sub-conscious mind.
–
RESILIENCE & OPTIMISM
Once Terry decided to focus deeper on metaphysical healing, rather than allopathic modalities, such as chemotherapy, oncologists did not believe it was necessary to conduct further tests on Terry.
This was problematic as Terry would be unable to create a database of all the varieties of anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
His research was stymied!
Should he seek further support from physicians, who seemed unwilling to continue studying the ailment or push forward on his own?
His journey was at a standstill-should he seek further support from physicians who seem unwilling to continue studying the ailment or push forward on his own?
The old adage, Maslow’s Hammer, depicts the need to invest in new tools if we are blind to the problem.
“If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.”
-Abraham Maslow
–
The law of the instrument, law of the hammer, Maslow’s hammer, or ‘golden hammer’ is a cognitive bias that involves an over-reliance on a familiar tool-Abraham Maslow wrote in 1966, “It is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail.” The concept is attributed both to Maslow and to Abraham Kaplan, although the hammer and nail line may not be original to either of them.
–
Terry persevered vigorously.
He knew there were many complementary methods of healing such as psychotherapy, belief kinesiology (eliminating negative beliefs and installing new, positive beliefs), acupuncture or methods that interrupt the mind-body connection, nutrition and meditation.
–
MIND OVER MATTER
Terry respected and followed the teachings of Dr. Bruce Lipton-a cell biologist, who wrote his seminal book, The Biology of Belief.

Lipton’s education and experience ventured into both the physical and metaphysical realms.
Terry’s healing journey massively improved due to support from people like Bruce.
Lipton teaches how our outer environments are mirrors showing us our inner state, how the mind and body work together, rather than separately and how our perceptions and physical chemistry are linked.
Terry’s healing journey was positively influenced and improved due to the wisdom and knowledge of people like Bruce.
The teachings of Deepak Chopra, Armando Hasudungan, Dr. Jimmy Scott, Louise Hay, Karol Truman, Hanna Kroeger and others motivated Terry to dig deeper into his healing analysis, as they taught how our subconscious beliefs are connected to our physical well-being.

EVOLVED HEALING PROCESS
Terry studied the human body and mind for weeks…months…fourteen years!
He took courses on the lymphatic system, immune system-studying the blood system, cellular activity-drew detailed flow charts-finally leading to bone marrow muscle-testing.
Kinesiology and deep reflection brought him to the conclusion that there was a relationship between a sub-conscious belief (blockage) from his childhood and problems in his bone marrow.
Please note that the blockages, for Terry, were physical as well as sub-conscious.
Some major blockages were influenced by his father’s constant fear of not being able to provide sufficiently for his family.
Quickly recognizing the intensity of the family environment imprinting on him as a child, it was revealed in the muscle-testing answers that Terry also had an irrational fear of not being able to care for or support others.
Terry’s final analysis revealed that he had selective Aplasia of the bone marrow which caused hematopoietic stem cell pooling.

RETURNING TO TRADITIONAL LIVING
Terry firmly believed that your mind controls your body.
He said that, in many cases, you are sub-consciously manifesting your illness.
He discovered that the bacterial balance in the body, called the Human Biome, as seen in the National Library of Medicine, is the new frontier in some aspects of medicine-your mind controls and regulates the bacteria.
It’s possible he was as passionate about self-healing as he was about encouraging others to do the same, evidently presented in his unpublished works on this very subject.
Consider Terry’s recommendations for anyone who may benefit from similar healing modalities.
- Be knowledgeable about your aliment
- Ask physicians for tests and analyze the results
- Ask for flow cytometry and cell cytology (some Oncologists may refuse, but persevere!)
- Think for yourself and ask questions
- Refer to Inspire Health resources https://inspirehealth.ca/
- Focus on your mind-body health
- Practice meditation, yoga, tai chi, chi gong

THE LIFESTYLE
How did Terry live his life during those fourteen years?
He lived similarly to the way we all live, day by day, spending quality time with family and friends, enjoying a good meal, a trip, exercising, having a good conversation-and enjoyed all his pastimes while healing cancer!
He seldom appeared ill during our family gatherings.
In fact, he was often the spark of conversation during family gatherings, holiday dinners or birthdays.
Terry’s kind, generous witty spirit has always been appreciated and will always be remembered.

LAST WISHES
Some of his last wishes were for people to open their minds to new ways of healing, consider possibilities beyond others’ opinions, think for ourselves, heal ourselves, better our lives and make a positive impact in the world.
“Change your beliefs and change your life!”
-Terence Riley
